We serve as catalysts for change by engaging key stakeholders, designing effective processes, and focusing participants on the right outcomes. As outcomes drive change, we show stakeholders how new information can be used in actionable ways, thereby creating a culture that accepts systemic change and is able to adapt to new challenges.

“I think that the willingness with which CBO (community based organization) folks asked questions and engaged testifies to the tone of openness and collaboration that you set.” –Peter Guttmacher, DC Children and Youth Investment Trust Corporation

Our work in this arena has been as diverse as facilitating community engagement around principal and superintendent hires to helping stakeholders figure out how to launch a standards-driven school reform effort. Examples include:

  • Facilitating, on behalf of the American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence, deliberations by content-specialists of customized standards to be used as the framework for testing both content specific and professional teaching knowledge of teacher candidates seeking national (alternative) teacher certification.
  • Bringing a diverse group of professionals (mirroring different sides of the “reading wars”) together to develop standards for the Ohio Department of Education.
  • Helping Menasha, Wisconsin Public School teachers develop more rigorous and better course sequences to align with their standards.
  • Conducting staff retreats and assisting the Center for Education Reform in implementing a new strategic plan, with the end result that they have continued to grow and set new records for fundraising and grassroots interaction.
